412 Mellon St- Coming Along
Things are slowly coming along at our condo conversion in Southeast. The floors are all done, the window bars are in, and most of the cabinets are up. In addition, all of the light fixtures have been installed. We've been really delayed by the fact that this building still has no electric. It's just been one delay after another, and definitely a learning experience. However, Pepco finally approved the service, so we should have electric by the end of the week. After that point, we can put in alarms, and then we can finish the project. At this point, I don't want to put anything more (toilets, vanities, appliances, etc...) into the house until we have alarms and the motion sensing exterior lights. We've had so many issues with theft in our other projects that I'd rather just take our time and wait.
We used a darker wood for the floors on the two upstairs units, so we went with a different color kitchen cabinet. Here is the new 42" cabinets. They will look even better once the matching crown moulding is installed around the top.
Here's the other upstairs unit. You really can see how much light the skylight lets in- there's no lights on in this picture, and it's still bright.
Here's the floors downstairs. These are actually even lighter than they appear in this picture, and they look awesome. The kitchen will go in the back right corner.
Here are the new window bars. It's the same design we used at our project at 718 I St, except we made them "quick release" so you can escape if there was a fire.
Here's the way the front of the house looks. It should look totally different by the end of next week. We're putting a covered entryway in front of the door (picture a little house) with two great pillars. We're also installing a new door, a white picket fence and black shutters. At the end of the project, we'll sod and landscape the front yard.
